Ricky Martin Autobiography

Last week, I mentioned I was reading the autobiography of Ricky Martin who began his career at age 12 when he became a member of the famous boy band Menudo. Growing up in Puerto Rico, I was a huge fan of Ricky Martin and I have always followed his career. I am truly enjoying this book, and as I learn more about his life I feel like I admire him more.
I think Ricky's parents were crazy when they allowed Ricky Martin to join this band at age 12 and allow the managers to fly him outside of the country to work and live in Orlando, Florida without his parents. This is crazy because he was a minor at the time. They worked him so hard it was sad. The worst part, his parents signed a contract that Ricky Martin will only receive a $400 month allowance and the rest of the money would be frozen in an account until he reached 18 years of age. So while or the other members were able to buy whatever they wanted, he could not. As I read his story I see that Ricky Martin's childhood stopped when he joined the band. His parents regretted and blamed each other for allowing him to join the band and ended up divorcing. Although his parents were involved in his life and loved him very much, they put him through the pain and trauma of having to choose between them. The band for Ricky was an escape from the pain his parents were putting him through.  I wished I had time to read more because I truly love this book, and I didn’t want to put it down.   I hope next week I can get more reading done.

 Ricky Martin Autobiography

I love to read autobiography books and romantic novels. For my birthday last year my mom gave me Ricky Martin's "Me" autobiography book. I am a huge fan of Ricky Martin and she knew I really wanted to read this book. Unfortunately, it sat on my book shelf for a year because I have had no time for any leisure reading other then textbooks. I am happy that now I have a reason to sit for reading time, its going to be a treat. This weekend I was able to get 2 hours of reading and I almost didn't want to put the book down. In this autobiography, Ricky Martin shares memories of his early childhood, his family sacrifices to support his dreams, coming of age experiences in the famed boy band Menudo, what it cost him and what it taught him. He also recounts some of his most profound milestones and his enlightening life lessons.
